Excellent Dictionary!

This is an excellent dictionary! While it is not exhaustive, it has had most words that I wanted to look up. Being divided between English-Creole and Creole-English it is helpful in translating words in both directions. Only negative is that I would prefer the dictionary and the font to be smaller to fit into my pocket.

For someone wanting to have a working knowledge of Creole, I recommend "Pimsleur's Haitian Creole" audio courses (30 lessons), "Haitian Creole Phrasebook: Essential Expressions for Communicating in Haiti" by Jowel C. Laguerre, and this dictionary - in that order.

After learning some Creole it is helpful to read some Creole literature to get a better feel for the language and sentence structure. For me I used a Haitian Creole translation of the Bible.

I've been looking for one that actually provides me with the creole translation of my English words. All comes short, very short. When I check the translation against the actual speaker its a hit or miss but this one is right on target. This is recommended for anyone who needs to communicate to a creole speaking person.

Its great if you just need to figure out a few words here and there. The only problem I had was that going from English to Creole there were sometimes 2 to 3 different words that were translated for 1 word. I wish they could have included sentences that way you know the proper way to use each word. But over all worth the $.

It's a port in a storm, but not one that you'd anchor at otherwise

As others have already mentioned, there is an utter dearth of documentation out there about Spring Web Services, a technology which, in my opinion, should be a very rich environment for documentation and texts. As such, this book gets an extra star for simply existing.

The problem with this book is that there are too many things which are just plain missing. For starters, while there aren't errors of gross negligence (it was clearly run through a spellchecker so that there aren't blatantly misspelled words), there are sentences which are incomplete and that makes the material hard to comprehend.

However, to me, the bigger issue is that the "recipes" which are included seem to be missing instructions. Not the kind of omissions like forgetting to include the eggs in a recipe for brownies, more like failing to mention that you need to grease the pan first. Put another way, it's as if the authors have made the assumption that any developer using this reference will automatically infer the items that have failed to be documented.

Purchase the book and use, but beware that it might not offer the quick start that you have come to expect from other reference books on the market today.

Best material available outside of Spring documentation

While the Spring documentation is as usual of high quality, it does not help much in practical examples. This book fills that gap. While some of the English syntax is awkward to follow and the structure of the pages are difficult to follow, it is a very small negative compared to the rest of the book. The authors clearly have a clear understanding of what they are talking about. The sample code works fine which is a delight. Coverage of different security libraries is important and done very well. Also, the graded approach to using Spring Web Services is very useful. It helped me understand when to use, what and where. The use of interceptors is explained very well.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to use the power of Spring Web Services.

A good supplement to the anemic online reference documentation

This book does assume a certain amount of foreknowledge of Spring and JEE in general, but since it's a cookbook and not a book intended to explain in detail, it works quite well.
As one of the reviewers above observed, it would have been nice to have this book when I was starting out with Spring WS. The writing style is clean and no nonsense and it clearly outlines all of the prerequisites for each recipe. It typically provides all of the maven dependencies required for each recipe, a practice that is becoming more popular with the various online resources.
If you're looking for some quick reference card style instructions for building or consuming web services, this book goes quite a long way toward fulfilling your needs.

Great Read

This book was a great read! It is meant to be studied throughout a 40 day period (8 weeks, 5 days each), but I could not put it down. It is a book to read, re-read, study, and apply to your own life. While reading, there were so much good information and applications that I could use in my own life. It's so much more than living for riches or the "prosperity gospel", but more of how to live your life to its fullest potential.

The author broke it down into a different category for each of the weeks: spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, relational, social, vocational, and financial. Each of the different categories provided specific insight on how to reach a fuller life. At the end of each of the days it also includes a "Prosperity Point" that brings the entire day's subject together along with a "Prosperity Thought" to provoke further study.

Throughout the entire time reading this book, I found myself writing down notes from what I was learning from the reading. I also found it to be so applicable to life in general and hit home in specific things in my life personally. This book covers so many different things, but does a good job of getting the important "take home" things to get from it across.

This book encouraged me personally to want to live my life to its fullest, to what God has created it to be, not halfheartedly, but all in. I was challenged to constantly think the joy-producing thoughts of a life dedicated to Christ, to fully surrender over what I thought was best to The Best Thing: God, to see myself as the person I want to become, and so much more.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to "fulfill [their] purpose and maximize [their] potential."

Great Read!

I wondered when I asked to review this book if it was going to be another “do this and you’ll be rich… prosperity gospel” book. Oh how wrong I was. This book by Dr. Cindy Trimm is amazing! It truly spoke to my heart.

This book, The Prosperous Soul, is meant to be read, and studied, over 40 days; focusing on the areas of: Spiritual, Intellectual, Emotional, Physical, Relational, Social, Vocational and lastly Financial Prosperity. But I couldn’t hold on to the next day to read the wisdom that so packs the pages of this book such as “You can only become the best version of yourself – you will never be the best version of someone else. You can only win the race God has set before you by being the very best possible you.” (Page 45).

This book is not only a must read… it is a must read again, and then again to study and apply its wisdom.

Concentrates on inner character

The life of our soul is very important, Trimm writes. She wants each of us to have a prosperous soul. This is the third book in her series on the vitality of the soul.

She lays a foundation of investigating what true abundance and prosperity mean. She concentrates on the inner attitude rather than the accumulation of stuff. She encourages us to make the decision to hope, be joyful, be grateful, be expectant.

What follows are forty chapters looking at the various aspects of the soul and how to make each of them flourish. She has grouped the chapters around the eight realms of life: spiritual/physical, emotional/intellectual, vocational/calling, relational/reputational. She also covers the eight human drives that coincide with the realms: the drive to be safe, to know, to be known, to bond, to grow, to be recognized, to achieve, to acquire. She adds the corresponding hallmarks of an empowered person: feeling loved, energized, supported, respected, contributive, sense of meaning, connectedness, ownership.

I really like the way Trimm has written this book. I like it that she does not emphasize the accumulation of money or stuff. She concentrates on how we build a prosperous soul the way God wants, not what man considers prosperous. Trimm lays a foundation with an emphasis on grace, the importance of Bible reading, prayer, meditation, fasting, etc.

I was surprised with some of her suggestions – like creativity. “The world needs people who are obsessed with pursuing God and His witty inventions in order to solve real-world problems.” (107) I really like that. And how about a chapter on study? “Don't be afraid to explore new topics.” (110) As a life long learner, I love that!

Other chapters include joy and peace. Others are on fortitude and tenacity. I really appreciate Trimm writing about having grit. She writes, “...the pursuit of God is not for the faint of heart or the fickle.” (142) How about a chapter on self-control, kindness, and service?

I really liked Trimm's book. Hers is a fresh voice on what it means to be prosperous. This book will help readers concentrate on developing the kind of character God desires rather than accumulating wealth man desires. It can be used as an eight week study or a forty day devotional reading.
