light and music didn't work

This is a cute book for the a toddler (my 16 month old son LOVES these books), but this book is not the winner Halloween Bugs is (I highly recommend-- plus, bugs fit in better for that season). But this book is fun and cute nonetheless. Problem is, the one light in the whole book, along with the music, is the last page, and neither work! The light doesn't light up at all, and the music is this pathetic dying noise. I'd exchange it, but don't think I want to mess with shipping it back. I'd say buy this book if you think your little will enjoy it, but don't be too disappointed if the last page doesn't work.

UPDATE: I have since returned this book for a new one, and the new book is working great. Both my 16 month old and 3 yr old love it. The only problem is how my 16 month old isn't gentle with these books, but it is worth the price, even if I have to replace it one day.

This is your warning...

that once you buy one of these books, you'll end up with the entire collection. Children love these pop-up books because they are like no other books out there. The pages are beautiful and sturdy, while being incredibly interactive. We have so much fun reading this book. This series puts all other pop-up books to shame. The rest are the boring "lift-a-flap" for every page. Tons of fun and surprises are in store for the little hands that turn these pages!

Cute and Creative Christmas Book

My 18-month old daughter loves this book. The interactive elements are inventive and thoughtful. I also appreciate the quality of the rhyming text (sometimes the pop ups are cute, but the text is a mere boring afterthought), and there are a variety of different types of activities. Sometimes things pop up, other times there is a lift the flap. There is a bug ornament that you take out of the envelope and hang on the tree (which she loves to do again and again...I get so tired of that page!)
If you are looking for a Christmas book that is interactive and a little bit different, this fits the bill.
My only complaint is that the battery for the star on the last page has worn out, and it's not replacable! They should make it replacable like with so many other battery powered books.

Ok intro to someone new to using a multimeter

Couple small problems, but otherwise good basic introduction to multimeter.
In one place, he says a multimeter measures resistance by sending "a small electricity" from one test probe through the part being tested and back to the meter through the other probe. True, but would be better called a current. The he says "the time it takes for the electricity to travel through the test piece and back to the meter is directly related to the resistance measurement it will display. The more resistance, the longer it takes for the electricity to travel through." Not really. It sends a constant current through the tested item, measures the voltage, and uses Ohm's law to calculate the resistance and then displays it. Nothing to do with time measurement.
In another place he tells how to solder. Heat up and clean the probe. Check. Tin the tip, check. Then he says to apply more solder to the hot tip and let it run to the wire being soldered. Almost right. The right way is to heat the wire and apply the solder to the hot wire, not the tip of the solder tool.
Is this picking nits? Yes. For a novice starter intro to your meter, it does the job. .

Very Helpful

The author aimed to teach the basics of the Multimeter and how to use basic meter settings. That is exactly what I wanted as a novice. I am very satisfied and would recommend this book for beginners. He also wrote a more advanced book which I have not yet read.

Misleading, little on how to use multimeter. Talks about soldering, types of multimeters, but not how to use. Very misleading.

About the Author

Barry M. Staw is the Lorraine T. Mitchell Professor of Leadership and Communication at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has previously served on the faculties at the University of Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, and UCLA. He is the author of more than 60 academic articles and has edited several hooks on organizational behavior. He has served on the editorial boards of most major journals in the fields of organizational behavior and applied psychology, and is founder and co-editor of the annual series, Research in Organizational Behavior. Professor Staw's current research interests include the relationship of affect and emotion to work performance, the escalation of commitment, organizational innovation, and the linkage of psychological processes to organizational strategy. He recently received the Academy of Management's Scholarly Contributions Award in recognition of his career achievements in research.

Book content is great but...

Content: this book is good but outdated, most of the content is based in research papers or cases from the the late 80s and the early 2000. I wish current research had been presented.

Textbook condition: well I paid used book's price. Instead of receiving a "used original book" I received an original photocopy of it. Not cool!!!
On my end this was a big issue since I use and abuse of highlighters. With original books the ink does not go through the pages but with cheap photocopies it does, I ended up making holes through some of the pages.... Due to time I had to keep the book. I wish there was a way to identify through amazon whether or not I am buying a cheap photocopy or an original book.

The book was trashed

I recieved this book today and the condition of the book was not as described. The binding is off and the pages are falling out of the book and there are post it and highlights marks and pencil marks throughout the book. It was priced too high to be in the condition that I recieved this book in. I will not be purchasing another book from this seller.

Grade 1-6-- There's a challenge here for everyone who is sure that another collection of Greek myths will never circulate: put a plain brown wrapper on this oversize book and watch kids fight for what look like comic strips. The eight tales all feature humans, not gods (Pandora, Arion, Orpheus, Heracles, Daedalus, Perseus, Theseus and Arachne), but the funny-looking figures are hardly heroic. Williams's approach is to be faithful in fact and setting, but modern in humor and attitude. The retellings are quite accurate, even down to obscure (and sometimes gruesome) details, but above all they are witty and fast-paced. Plot is compressed into concise captions, but dialogue balloons hold irreverent asides from the cast. The cartoon format is brilliantly colorful, with bright, folk-patterned, decorative borders. It's a triumph of layout: only in the labors of Heracles does the panel design seem congested. When it's all Greek to your child

Does your child look at you blankly when you mention "Pandora's Box"? Do they think that "Hercules" is a Disney-originated character? Even the most stubborn young reader will get a kick out of this comic book version of some of the Greek myths, and you will too when you read the hilarious little speech boxes of the cartoon drawings.

This book introduces the following myths in a very basic bare-bones format, but without sparing the gory bits:

Pandora's Box - starring Prometheus, Zeus, Epimetheus and Pandora

Arion and the Dolphins - starring Periander and Arion, with a cast of a couple dozen extras and some dolphins

Orpheus and Eurydice - otherwise known as "Don't Look Back", featuring Orpheus and Eurydice of course, plus Charon, Cerberus, Pluto and Persephone

The Twelve tasks of Heracles (also known as Hercules) - this story also has Hera, Eurystheus, some Amazons, and a lot of beasts and monsters. Some animals were reportedly injured during the making of this story.

Daedalus and Icarus - also with Athene and King Minos

Perseus and the Gorgon's Head - Acrisius, Danae, Perseus, Dictys, Polydectes, Athene, Hermes, plus the all-girl groups of Gorgons, Grey Ones and Ocean Nymphs.

Theseus and the Minotaur - King Minos, Theseus, Aegeus, Ariadne, and a Minotaur in a labyrinth

Arachne versus Athene - A weave-off to end all weave-offs

Illustrated in vivid color and injected with humor, this book may not have all the myths, but will be enough to develop your child's interest in mythology. You can also make a note to try the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series (young adult fiction), which also introduces Greek mythology.

My Son LOVES this!

When I first saw this book, before giving it to my son, I didn't think he would care for the format of it. Boy, was I wrong. I guess 5 year old boys have different tastes than their moms. We had to read this every night for months! Some of the comic strips are kind of gross, but of course, he loved that too. If your child is interested in Hercules, he or she will probably LOVE learning about all the other heroes (and villains) in Greek mythology. I highly recommend this book.

great book for very young kids

I have a daughter who is turning 5 in two months and I wanted to introduce her to some classical stories that eventually she will resist learning about when she is in high school so I decided to pick this book up. I've been very happy with my purchase. she constantly insists that we read the Greek Myths. Its full of wonderful stories and the comic-book style art is great. When I read her the stories, I can see her mind really brewing up the imagery of whats happening. All in all its a wonderful historical matter prepared in a way so that four+ year olds can start to understand and enjoy.

The only "heads up" is that most Greek Myths have a tragic ending so be ready to change the ending of these stories from "they died" to "they got real sick, but will return from the hospital soon!". Sometimes I give her the sugar coated ending and other times I will give her the death ending.
