The author of REA’s EMT Flashcards book, Jeffrey Lindsey, Ph.D., is a leading figure in emergency services, with 25 years of experience in all areas of EMS and fire rescue. A former fire chief, firefighter, and paramedic, Dr. Lindsey is the Coordinator/Lecturer of the Fire Emergency Science program at the University of Florida, and Chief Learning Officer for the Health & Safety Institute in Gainesville, Florida.
About the Author
Dr. Jeffrey Lindsey has been involved in the emergency services industry since 1980, as a firefighter, fire chief, paramedic, 911 dispatcher, member of national and local safety advisory councils, and he is currently paying it forward as an educator. He is the Coordinator/Lecturer of the Fire Emergency Science program at the University of Florida, and Chief Learning Officer for the Health & Safety Institute.
Dr. Lindsey holds a doctorate and master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a bachelor’s degree in Fire and Safety Engineering, and an associate’s degree in Paramedic. He also achieved the Chief Fire Officer designation and completed the Executive Fire Officer program. He was the 2011 recipient of the James O. Page EMS award, given annually to an individual who has had a positive, national impact on fire-service EMS management and leadership.

Serving the public as a paramedic is a rewarding career for anyone who wants to become a first responder. When paramedics respond to a call, they must be prepared for anything and know how to act quickly and safely when someone’s life is in their hands.
Paramedics have a great responsibility to the public and must demonstrate their knowledge of certain requirements before receiving certification. In most states, candidates must complete a training program and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic exam.
Certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) requires that you pass both a cognitive and a psychomotor test. The computer-adaptive multiple-choice cognitive test contains 80 to 150 questions. You will have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam.
As you prepare for the cognitive test, keep in mind that the key to selecting the correct answer is to read the question carefully and think about what the question is asking. I advise my students to regard the question as a snapshot of the incident. What is happening at the scene? What should you do to help? How would you handle the situation?
The practical, or “hands-on,” psychomotor exam, tests your skills in a scenario-type format. To learn more about the specific requirements for this exam, contact your state EMS office or course instructor. For additional information about the Paramedic certification exam, visit www.nremt.org.
Taking the Paramedic certification exam can be challenging. You need to prepare yourself by studying your textbook in addition to practicing with REA’s Paramedic Exam Flashcard Book and online test. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK

I bought this book because it says "Online Practice Exam" and "Medical reference Charts online". NOWHERE on the front or back covers, or in the intro pages that you can read in the "Look Inside" pages does it say that you'll have to pay more for these features. I received the book today, logged in online, and you can't do anything online without paying ANOTHER $25.85! This book is a waste of money if you are trying to assess yourself for the NREMT-P exam.
