Why isn't she with us now?
By John
Barbara Ward was a woman who saw the problems the world is facing now - but she saw them five decades ago. She was an economist with a heart and soul dedicated to the poor and under-privileged, and she proposed solutions which we are still fumbling after. She advised US Presidents, World Bank Presidents and anyone who would listen to her. She had a huge effect for the good, and her work was inspired by her love of God and of her fellows. She should be canonised. What is remarkable is that it has taken so long for a biography to appear. and now it has it is comprised almost entirely of her own correspondence, writings and speeches, linked by a woman who knew her well. One great thing about her was her modesty: she said it did not matter who proposed solutions so long as they were adopted. She never blew her own trumpet.

A Woman Before her Time
By Marjorie
Prior to reading this book, I knew little about Barbara Ward and her work. What an amazing woman! She advised and wrote speeches for US presidents and other world leaders, taught and lectured at universities. Her great concern was the gap between rich and poor nations and the problems this gap creates--even more of a problem today than when she was alive. What we call foreign aid was her cause and challenge.
According to those who knew her, she was also charming, funny and great company.
This book is a delightful and educational read for anyone. The world needs more Barbara Wards today.
